MLB Preview 2013

Hot Dogs!… Spring… Warmth… Baseball… Alright let’s make this short and sweet. I present you Whitsport’s take on how MLB will shake down in 2013:

Regular Season Awards:

MVP Awards: Matt Kemp (NL), Albert Pujols (AL)

Cy Young Awards: Clayton Kershaw (NL), Justin Verlander (AL)

Playoff Predictions:

AL: Rays, White Sox, Rangers, Yankees (WC), Angels (WC)
NL:
Braves, Brewers, Dodgers, Giants (WC), Phillies (WC)

WORLD SERIES: Angels over Braves

Bold Predictions:

– The Blue Jays will win more games than last year, but miss the playoffs.

– Cliff Lee will bounce back from a 6-9 record in 2012 to be a Cy young contender.

– Jacoby Ellsbury will play less than 81 games.

– Yankees, Cardinals, and Tigers will all disappoint.

– Red Sox will finish BELOW .500, again

– White Sox, Rays, and Brewers will be surprisingly good teams.

– Yankees will get off to a really cold start, but heat up in the second half to make the playoffs.

– Mike Trout comes back to Earth a little bit, but Albert Pujols finds his old stroke again.

– The Pirates will finish the season with a winning record.

– The Astros, now a member of the AL, will find that the grass still isn’t greener in the other league

– Jered Weaver will approach 25 Wins

– Bryce Harper improves at the plate, and makes a run at 35 HRs and 100 RBIs.

– Stephen Strasburg will be allowed to pitch over 200 innings this year.

– The Rangers will win the AL West despite the loss of Josh Hamilton.

Here’s a closer look at how I see the divisions in baseball shaping up this season:

AMERICAN LEAGUE
East
Tampa Bay is that team this year, you won’t recognize many names, but they’ll get the job done. Expect some regression from both NY and Baltimore
Rays
Yankees*
Blue Jays
Orioles
Red Sox

Central– Robin Ventura had Chicago in good position early on last year, I expect this mix of youth and veterans to put together a more complete season in 2013.
White Sox
Tigers
Twins
Royals
Indians

West– in Texas, the team that just can’t seem to get over the hump will be back to prove they’re still the class of the West. I expect a monster year from Pujols in LA
Rangers
Angels*
A’s
Mariners
Astros

NATIONAL LEAGUE
East– the Nationals surprised everyone last year with the league’s best record, but the Phillies and Braves both finished really strong, watch out for both teams
Braves
Phillies*
Nationals
Mets
Marlins

Central– with the departure of the Astros it’s anyone’s division! ok, maybe not, but the Brew-Crew look best suited for a division crown
Brewers
Cardinals
Reds
Pirates
Cubs

West- can the Giants continue their success out West? the revamped Dodgers look to put a solid (and expensive) line-up out their to challenge their rivals.
Dodgers
Giants*
Diamondbacks
Padres
Rockies

That’s all for now, we’ll check back at season’s end to see how we did… PLAY BALL!!
